Prairie Women on Snowmobiles

In 2013, Prairie Women on Snowmobiles (PWOS) added the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency (Agency) and the patients they serve as a beneficiary of their fundraising efforts. Since then, more than $444,000 has been raised by the women riders, their supporters, family and friends.

In the early years, PWOS supported the Agency’s Breast Cancer Screening Program by helping fund mammography reading rooms for radiologists in both Regina and Saskatoon. .

Since then, funds have been used to purchase MANY care and comfort items for cancer patients at both the Saskatoon Cancer Centre and Allan Blair Cancer Centre in Regina. These items include 28 chemotherapy treatment chairs, an ice machine, vital signs monitors, smart pumps, IV poles, bedside carts and a weigh scale.

PWOS was the sole donor for the replacement of window blinds in the Allan Blair Cancer Centre’s chemotherapy treatment area. This seemingly insignificant item really helped to improve the look and feel of the environment for the cancer patients who spend many hours there!

More recently, PWOS’ support was essential in the purchase of a new SUV for the Agency’s Breast Cancer Screening Program. The SUV is used alongside the Mobile Mammography Unit to help provide thousands of mammograms annually to women throughout rural Saskatchewan.

Lastly, but not least of all, more than $100,000 raised by PWOS is pledged towards the purchase of a brand new Mobile Mammography Unit in the coming years!

The dedication of Prairie Women on Snowmobiles to support cancer patients in Saskatchewan is outstanding. In addition to the incredible amount of funds they have raised; the awareness surrounding early detection, the importance of screening and the friendships formed will have a lasting impact. The Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan and the Agency are so grateful for your support over the last 10 years – Thank you!
