POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President of Development is a key member of the leadership team, and plays a crucial role in the business and strategic planning process for the Foundation
The Vice President will be responsible to lead a dedicated team in the strategic thinking and execution of all development activities, which include major gifts and campaigns, annual and monthly giving, direct mail and online gifts, and planned giving. A credible community member who is authentically mission-driven, the Vice President will have a passionate interest in cancer care for the people of Saskatchewan and a desire to serve others.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategic Management
- Contribute to the strategic and business planning process, including participation in development of the annual budget and operational plan for the development team.
- Lead the development of, and deliver short and long-term fundraising strategies across the various programs, consistent with the Foundation’s strategic plan.
- Act as the senior advisor to the CEO on revenue strategy and organizational growth.
- Serve as a senior leader on cross-organizational initiatives involving the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and other partners.
- In collaboration with the Director of Finance & Administration, ensure that appropriate reports on progress including operational key performance measures to internal and external stakeholders are accurate and meaningful.
Fundraising Execution
- Lead, develop and execute major campaign plans, grow and sustain a robust pipeline of major gift donors, and build and maintain lifelong relationships between donors and the community we serve to support a strong culture of philanthropy.
- Develop and execute diverse strategies and tactics for all fundraising initiatives to ensure increased annual revenue.
- Leverage campaign experience, advise, and support the development and implementation of campaign procedures, policies, and operating plans in order to ensure highest professional standards for enhancing the quality and effectiveness of the Foundation’s fundraising efforts.
- Work with the Director of Engagement, lead the development of compelling case material.
- Personally manage a portfolio of key prospects and donors and directly conduct cultivation visits, solicitation calls, and stewardship activities that set the example for the team.
- Accountable for meeting or exceeding annual fundraising targets set in collaboration with the CEO and Board.
- Provide revenue forecasts and risk assessments to support organizational budgeting.
- Develop and implement the prospect management process including donor pipeline development, prospect identification and research as necessary.
- Work closely with the CEO and Director of Major and Planned Giving to identify a portfolio of major gift prospects, focusing on gifts of $10,000+
Stewardship & Recognition
- Serve as a key ambassador for the Foundation in the community, building trust and visibility with donors, government partners, and healthcare leadership.
- Lead and support the delivery of the highest standards of stewardship to the Foundation’s donors aimed at deepening engagement with current donors and building the pipeline for leadership, major, and planned gifts.
- Collaborate with the communications team to ensure donor cultivation, acknowledgement and recognition programs are in place and effective.
- Build relationships with the senior management at the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and the Cancer Clinics to foster support for the mission of the Foundation.
Teamwork & Leadership
- Manage and provide ongoing leadership and oversight to the fundraising team including recruitment, training, direction, support, coaching, mentorship, and directing personal/professional development
- Collaborate with the fundraising team to create a plan which will increase revenue to support the strategic direction of the Foundation.
- Complete annual performance evaluations and ongoing coaching.
- Assist Board members, CEO, and other fundraising volunteers and staff to identify, cultivate, and solicit charitable gifts and sponsorships.
- Lead by example, collaboratively working with service delivery teams (communications, finance, etc.) to ensure adherence to the policies and procedures and to identify opportunities for improvement.

Education and Experience
- University degree or post-secondary diploma.
- A minimum of 10-12 years progressive fundraising experience, including senior leadership of multi-million-dollar campaigns.
- Proven success leading and mentoring high-performing fundraising teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT and database management skills.
- Demonstrated growth in the fundraising profession with a proven track record of success.
- CFRE certification or equivalent.
- Valid drivers’ license.
Other
- Out of town – overnight travel may be required
- Occasional work outside of office hours will be required during periods of peak activity and at special events.
