Together, We’re Expanding Breast Cancer Screening Across Saskatchewan
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our donors, Saskatchewan women now have greater access to life-saving breast screening services than ever before.
In 2022 we announced a $2 million campaign to replace the current Breast Screening Bus that is now more than 22 years old. Donors across the province gave generously, and a $1 million donation from the Kinsmen Foundation completed this fundraising effort. A new screening vehicle is in production and will be on the road by the end of 2025.
We know screening saves lives, and in March 2024, the Government of Saskatchewan announced the staged expansion of screening eligibility to gradually include women aged 40–49. This change means that an estimated 76,000 additional women will gain access to breast screening – empowering an entirely new generation to take control of their health.
Looking Ahead: More Access, More Impact
Again, we jumped on board and launched a $3.2 million campaign to expand capacity and access to breast screening for women in our province. These funds will purchase:
- Two new digital mammography machines for the permanent breast screening sites in Regina and Saskatoon.
- A second mobile mammography vehicle complete with new technology and equipment to serve rural and remote areas
- And a pilot SUV to transport staff and equipment efficiently
Together, these resources will grow Saskatchewan’s screening program sustainably, meeting the needs of more women – no matter where they live.
Campaign Milestone
The two digital mammography machines for the permanent screening sites in Regina and Saskatoon have been purchased and installed! These machines were purchased thanks to a $1million donation from PTI Transformers, and will double the capacity at each of our largest centres to ensure the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency (Agency) can meet the increased demand for screenings.
These machines were installed at the end of April 2025 and are already impacting the services provided to women in our province. Thanks to the dedicated team in the Agency’s BreastCheck screening program, an additional 25 to 30 exams are performed each week. The improved patient flow has been noticed by staff. In Saskatoon, wait times are less than three weeks, and in Regina, wait times have decreased by three months!
You’re Driving Change
Thanks to you, we have already raised over $2 million towards these vital pieces of new equipment – bringing critical screenings to Saskatchewan’s rural and remote communities.
But we are not done! We’re $1 million away from completing this campaign, and we know we can do it – with your help!
Every donation brings us closer to a future where all Saskatchewan women can access timely, high-quality breast cancer screening no matter where they live. Thank you for standing with us.
