POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Development Officer plays an important role in advancing the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan’s mission by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors across a broad range of giving levels, including planned and legacy giving. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and mission-driven fundraising professional who is eager to grow their career in a dynamic and supportive environment.
The Development Officer will manage a portfolio of prospects and donors, supporting the Foundation’s annual, major, and planned giving programs while contributing to a strong culture of philanthropy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Donor Development and Portfolio Management
- Manage and grow a portfolio of individual donors and prospects through all stages of the donor cycle; identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Conduct discovery meetings, donor visits, and follow-up communications to deepen relationships and advance giving.
- Prepare customized solicitation proposals, briefing notes, and donor correspondence in collaboration with the CEO.
- Ensure all donor interactions, proposals, and gift transactions are accurately recorded and maintained in the Raiser’s Edge NXT database.
- Work closely with the CEO to identify and develop a pipeline of prospects focused on gifts at the leadership and major gift levels.
- Support the Foundation’s annual, monthly, and mid-level giving programs as needed.
Planned and Legacy Giving
- Serve as the Foundation’s primary point of contact for planned giving, compassionately helping donors and prospects to support the Cancer Foundation with strategic and high-impact gift plans that celebrate their legacy.
- Develop and implement the annual planned giving strategy, including tactics and evaluation, in collaboration with the CEO and Director of Finance.
- Develop lead generation opportunities to build a portfolio of planned giving prospects and cultivate and solicit them through to commitment.
- Administer all planned gift accounts, maintaining proper records and conducting required correspondence.
- In collaboration with the Director of Finance, track expected planned gifts and steward family members and executors.
- Lead the development and execution of a Legacy program to engage and steward Legacy Donors.
- Develop marketing tools and actively identify channels to educate and inspire prospective donors about planned giving vehicles.
Stewardship and Donor Relations
- Develop and implement meaningful stewardship activities to recognize and retain donors at all giving levels.
- Coordinate personalized donor acknowledgment, including thank-you letters, impact reports, and recognition activities.
- Collaborate with the communications team to highlight donor stories and showcase the impact of philanthropic support.
- Respond to donor inquiries with excellence in customer service and relationship-building.
- Support donor recognition activities, including appreciation events and milestone acknowledgments.
Community Engagement and Events
- Support event committees and attend third-party and Foundation-hosted events to build relationships and identify new prospects.
- Actively seek opportunities to engage new audiences and expand the Foundation’s presence in the Regina community.
Culture, Teamwork, and Administration
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and mission-focused team culture.
- Work closely with the development team to share best practices, support shared initiatives, and maintain consistent standards.
- Support the CEO in annual and multi-year budget and strategic planning processes.
- Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and organizational priority campaigns.
- Attend professional development sessions and seek external relationships through networking to broaden the Foundation’s reach.
- Cultivate strong internal relationships within the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and the Foundation.

Education and Experience
- Post-secondary degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- 1–3 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or a related field
- Exposure to or interest in planned giving concepts and estate philanthropy is considered a strong asset.
- Experience developing and maintaining donor relationships or working in a client-facing role.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT or another donor management system is considered an asset.
- Fundraising certification such as CFRE, or working toward it, is considered an asset.
- Valid driver’s license.
OTHER
- Out of town – occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Work may require occasional weekend and evening hours.
- Location of this position is in Regina, SK.
