Job Opportunity: Major Gifts Officer

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Major Gifts Officer will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors to secure major gifts in support of Foundation.

Based in Saskatoon, this role will focus on building and managing a portfolio of major gift donors in central and northern Saskatchewan, with a particular emphasis on gifts of $5,000 and above. A credible community member who is authentically mission-driven, the Major Gifts Officer will have a passionate interest in cancer care for the people of Saskatchewan and a desire to serve others.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Fundraising Execution

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of Major Gift donors ($5,000+) through all stages of the donor cycle, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Prepare related research and briefing notes, customized solicitation proposals, presentations, and other correspondence, in collaboration with the VP of Development and CEO.
  • Conduct in-person donor meetings and cultivation activities across central and northern Saskatchewan, building authentic and lasting relationships with prospects and donors.
  • Ensure Major Gift pledges, renewals, and other gift transactions are processed effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensure all actions, proposals, and donor interactions are entered into the Raiser’s Edge database and kept up to date.
  • Work closely with the VP of Development and CEO to identify and prioritize a portfolio of major gift prospects, focusing on gifts of $5,000 and above.
  • Develop and execute individualized donor engagement strategies that align donor interests with the Foundation’s funding priorities.
  • Actively support signature major gift campaigns and initiatives as directed by the VP of Development.

Culture and Teamwork

  • Collaborate with the VP of Development and the broader Development team to enhance how prospects are identified, assigned, and moved through the pipeline.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and team strategies.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide support to other members of the Development team as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative and mission-driven culture within the Foundation.

Planning and Administration

  • Support the VP of Development in annual and multi-year budget and strategic planning processes.
  • Support the development and execution of organizational priority campaigns and initiatives.
  • Attend professional development sessions and cultivate external relationships through networking to broaden the reach of the Foundation.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships within the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, the Foundation, and the broader Saskatoon community.

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent training and experience.
  • Proven track record and demonstrated fundraising successes, including experience soliciting major gifts of $5,000 or more.
  • Experience developing and executing donor cultivation and stewardship strategies.
  • Effectively able to use Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT and database management skills.
  • Fundraising certification such as CFRE is considered an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Other

  • Out of town – overnight travel may be required.
  • Work may require occasional weekend and evening hours during peak activity and at special events.
